What this site is
Legal by the Numbers exists for one sentence: The numbers behind legal situations — not legal advice. Legal situations run on published arithmetic — a state’s child support guideline, its comparative-negligence rule, its damage caps and filing deadlines, the witness and notarization requirements in its probate code, a county’s assessment-appeal window. That math is public, and it is almost never shown to the people it applies to. We show it, step by step, with a link to the document it came from.

Estimates are ranges, never answers
Every estimator here outputs a low-to-high range. The published methods carry real uncertainty, and a single number would hide it. A range describes what a formula produces — it is not a prediction of a settlement, an award, or a court order. Judges retain discretion, insurers use their own internal software, and no page can see your facts, your evidence, or your county.
No unverified number, ever
Legal figures move on statute cycles, and most sites copy them from each other. We hold a stricter rule: every changing figure — guideline tables, self-support reserves, damage caps, limitation periods, witness counts, protest deadlines — lives in a versioned rule pack recording its official source URL, its effective date, and the date a human opened that source. Each page shows that provenance. When a figure passes its review date, the page says so in an amber banner instead of quietly showing an old number. When we cannot open an official source, we publish nothing for that jurisdiction. Read the packs yourself on the data page.
Privacy by architecture
Every calculator runs entirely in your browser. The figures you enter — incomes, medical bills, parenting schedules, assessed values — are never transmitted to us or anyone else.
